Flare’s functionality comes with a single button and three indicator lights. However, high-tech with Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) to keep you connected and informed.
Track, Message, and Locate paired partners with Flare’s mobile app. Whether you’re hiking in the mountains, exploring urban jungles, or spending the day at a concert, Flare provides real-time updates on the whereabouts of paired partners directly within the app.
With Flare’s versatile pairing capabilities, you can stay connected with your trusted circle with a group of up to five. Flexibility of the mobile app means devices can be paired or unpaired without losing previous partner message history.
Flare works by obtaining and sending your geolocation using a dedicated onboard GPS unit to paired Flares over radio. Flare receives geolocations with other paired Flares simultaneously.
With the Flare app, all user information and whereabouts can be viewed on a compass and also on a map. Through the Flare app, text messages with confirmation receipts are received and sent.
Flare has a continuous battery life of 22 hours.
Currently, each Flare pairs with up to 4 other Flare devices.
Flare carries an onboard dedicated radio transceiver that shares and obtains geolocations between you and paired Flares. Flare is also a peer-to-peer encrypted communicator, meaning only you and paired devices see your geolocations, device information, and messages, and vice-versa.
Flare can work up to a distance of 3 miles (5 km) between you and partners. However, weather and terrain conditions can greatly vary device performance. More information can be found below.
Flare uses a standard USB-C cable and can be charged from a computer from a completely depleted state to maximum charge within 5 hours.
Flashing Green: Indicates GPS position is available and currently being obtained. In the OFF state GPS positioning is unavailable.
Solid Blue: The device is currently turned on and ready to go!
Solid Orange: Flare is currently charging. It will dim to indicate that Flare is fully charged.
Flare provides background location tracking and text messaging whereas a walkie-talkie transmits voice only. With Flare, you and partners have private channels where your data and messages are shared only between you in contrast to sharing channels with everyone.
Flare comes equipped with a GPS if you decide to navigate the wilderness and the biggest benefit yet ... no long pointy antennas!
